The Covid Crop (with apologies to purveyors of ‘The Bristol Stomp’ and assorted other Doo-wop tracks). by Des Mannay

It started with Covid –
everyone cuttin’ their hair.
Till we got legless:
throwing clumps in the air – like we just don’t care.
Now we just can’t stop
doing the Covid cropI can’t do zoom,
I’d clear the room –
or get upstaged by an I.T. nut.

I’m oh so lonely,
but feel more homely –
now that I’ve got a bowl haircut!

Now in lockdown,
we’re all doing our bit.
Hairdressers shut down,
I look like ‘Cousin It’.
Now we just can’t stop
doing the Covid crop

You’ve shaved your head,
like a skinhead –
just how we used to, when we were nippers.

I must conform,
and have it shorn –
thank god I’ve found the poodle clippers!

Coz now we just can’t stop
doing the Covid crop
Coz now we just can’t stop
doing the Covid crop

And I’m not… a junior hairdresser…
