Lions and tigers and bears by Stewart Ennis

A little plastic seal from a milk carton.
Lying on the kitchen floor.

I’ll get it on the way back.
Trip over the Hoover.

I’ll open the bedroom curtains.
See what the weather is doing.
I’ll open a window.
The air is stale.

I’ll change the sheets.
The bed is warm.
And a little damp?
A sick bed.

Scroll through the news.
‘Lions and tigers and bears, oh my.’

Another cup.
Of coffee this time?

Trip over the Hoover.
A little plastic seal from a milk carton.
I’ll get it on the way back.
I’ll open the bedroom curtains.
I’ll open a window.
I’ll change the sheets.

Lions and tigers and bears, oh my.
