I can’t help but think that Dame Vera set herself a goal,
To take part in VE Day 75.
I bet she didn’t expect The Queen to quote one of her most famous lines,
In this, the most difficult of times.
Even now the words,
Of that most poignant song,
‘We’ll Meet Again’
Moves people to tears,
Not just veterans and widows thinking of their men,
But all of us, who weren’t alive back then.
Her voice reassured those who were frightened,
She gave hope to those who were apart,
She represented home.
A remarkable woman.
The Forces’ sweetheart.
An icon.
