Swallows. A poem by John McGrath

The swallows are flying high today.
Far above them, on blue vellum,
vapour trails write messages
of new beginnings, old hopes
and second chances.

This year they come again, fly high.
But here in Covid’s year, no vapour trails
To read above their wings, and yet
Their flight inspires a rush of hope
For better times and new beginnings.
