Mantis Praying. A poem by Renos Nicos Spanoudes

if you were here
there would have been
a calendar
with xs
marking off the day
by days
left
pre
post
post post extendlock

if you were here
you would have woken me
routine
daily
structure
seen to it that we
i
stay afloat

wake pray wash eat clean eat wash sleep
wake pray wash eat clean e(xist)at wash sleep
wake dr(own) not
a(sleep)

if you were here
we would have laughed
w(e)ould have had the time
to tell and hear and share our stories human(e)
re(connect(ed)ion)
reached through the barrierfence
the chains that once us split
and (a)partkept
now
coronad

but you are not here

and after i managed today
to rise
from the bed(ead)
stirred by the p(aws)leadi(nsistent)ng
and the wet nose licking
from cosmos and agape

angels

i prayed
i drew the curtains
opened the windows
washed
ate
cleaned

but when i went to unlock the back door
to take out the garbage
i was met by a mantis
p(erched)raying
green oracle
on the handle silver

and then
i realised
you are
you are here

still
