Locked Down, Apart. A poem by K.E. Stone

Let’s not dwell on it
You say
No, I agree
And we speak of other things

I’d like you to cry a little
To say you miss me so much
You can’t bear it any more
And are going
Right now
To the nearest airport
To hell with it

We both know you can’t
But I’d like you to say it anyway
And then dry your eyes and say sorry
I was just having a moment

I’d like you to send me flowers
Or a book you think I’ll like
Suggest we watch the same TV programme
At the same time
Or a film
Even though you never did things like that before

We are in our separate cocoons
Not dwelling
I love you, you say
I love you too
