Lockdown Seascape. A poem by Sue Burge

I see a cargo ship, empty – gulls circling like pale midges.
I wonder what it’s waiting for –
maybe the red traffic light of the sun has stopped it in its tracks;
maybe the crew have mutinied -partying like it’s Christmas in the hot hull;
or maybe it’s balanced on a whale’s back,
not daring to move, not daring to break
this dangerous magic.
