Do Not Forget Me. A poem by Jeanna Ní Ríordáin

Do not forget me as you keep safe
Inside your homes
I cannot take refuge
I have no place to go

The streets are the only home I know
And now they’re empty and deserted
But still I sit here on my own
Because I have no place to go

Do not forget me as you set out
Your safety measures
To protect the population
By keeping us inside
Do not forget that I have no place to go,
No shelter, no place that I can hide

Do not forget that as you stay safe inside
I will be outside
Alone and unprotected
On the silent and abandoned streets tonight.
