This Moment. A poem by Bernice McDonnell

This moment, everything seems split in two

How I want to strangle my father
But my heart seizes when he coughs

How I long for a hug
But rejoice in my aloneness

How I pray for rain
But turn my face towards the sun

How each day drags
But the weeks fly past at speed

How I’m reading more than ever
But can’t concentrate on the TV

How I long for foreign shores
But appreciate my little corner of the world like never before

These strange times have turned everything on its head

How I want things to go back to the way they were

But I don’t

  1. Very good! Love how the contrasts work. Resonates really well with the current situation, as I experience it.
