Somehow He’ll Be There. A poem by Damien Carroll

As a child his greatest fear was the dark.
Somehow she knew,
somehow she was there.
When they chased him his greatest fear was pain.
Somehow she knew,
somehow she was there.

When his daughter died, he needed a friend.
Somehow she knew,
somehow she was there.
When his cancer returned, he was overwhelmed.
Somehow she knew,
somehow she was there.

Now, isolated in care, her health declines.
A new fear grips him.
A fear that she will die
before he can hold her hand one more time.
Somehow he’ll know,
somehow he’ll be there.
