Quiescence. A poem by Patricia Dougherty

wintering in april tells
the real story behind
her wearing a mask
in front of the truth
feeling covert

withdrawn now from
the festival tides
she is a medicine woman
practitioner in a cave
feeling primitive

wayfaring with a candle
she uncovers her
essential self
resting there already
feeling familiar

word-smithing a lyric
as food and drink
making her telling true
delicious beautiful
feeling light
