Mourning, Day 28. A poem by Demi Anter

Gus and I try to get through the day
as best as we can:
her sleeping in the armchair,
me crying on the couch.
One foot in front of the other,
the only way we know how.
We’ve done it before.
We’ll manage again,
to get through the day
as best as we can.
