Essential Exercise. A poem by Gill Chedgey

We walk.
We wave at each other.
We smile even.
No words are spoken
but much is said.
Our social distance
is physical only.
Other distances are dissolved.
These strangers
who share this time
with me
break down the barriers
of etiquette and englishness.
These strangers who engage
with me,
nameless,
as we take
our early morning exercise.
Our silent screams
urge
essential
unity.
