Vapour Trail. A poem by S.B. Borgersen

One chalk line across unblemished skies
is this a tip-toeing back with one tentative
tender mark?

There once were many — too many
strident — non-hesitant — confident
criss-crossing — scratching — cross-hatching
scarring — blemishing blue with white
bringing — taking — striking

fading

constant streams of vapour through an invisible constellation

Since March there have been none

now here is one — the first
streaking from east to west
a single gossamer strand of hair
from the underbelly of a soft white dog

leaving behind a spreading trail of vapour
