Lockdown, lockdown, it’s the only game in town. A poem by David C Johnson

Lockdown, lockdown, it’s the only game in town
Where you are your own jailer, trusty and screw
The decisions you make, they are up to you
It is house arrest, but without the tagging
After so many weeks your morale maybe flagging
Lockdown, lockdown, it’s the only game in town
You are the parole board. You could grant a reprieve.
But where would you go? You know you can’t leave.
Your walks cut a groove, as you circle the garden
If you don’t do it daily, your arteries will harden
Lockdown, lockdown, it’s the only game in town
You must remember to dress for the video call
To exchange your news, which is bugger all
For now, we must dream of those treks in the hills
Of dining out and other such thrills

We know this will end
What we don’t know is when
